A Bittersweet Goodbye and a Warm Welcome

As Meeting Centres continue to grow and thrive across Scotland, we’ve reached one of those meaningful moments that come with any journey — saying a heartfelt goodbye to someone who’s been a big part of our story, while also opening our arms to someone new who’s ready to help shape the next chapter.

Jan Beattie
After an incredible year with us, our much-loved Strategic Advisor, Jan Beattie, is retiring. Jan has been far more than a colleague — she’s been a wise guide, a tireless advocate, and a true friend to our whole community. Her support has left a deep and lasting mark on all we do. She didn’t just bring expertise — she brought kindness, insight, and a heartfelt belief in the power of community-led dementia support.
Jan’s relationship with Meeting Centres goes way back. Long before she officially joined us, she was championing the model from within the Scottish Government’s Dementia Policy Unit, helping lay the groundwork for what has now become a growing national movement. Her steady presence, quiet determination, and warm heart have helped us grow in ways we’ll never forget.
Jan — thank you. We’ll miss your sharp wisdom, your thoughtful voice, and the way you always reminded us to keep people with dementia and their families at the heart of everything we do. We wish you nothing but joy, rest, and new adventures in this next phase of life.
At the same time, we’re delighted to welcome Colm McBriarty to our team as our new National Sustainability Lead. If you know Colm, you’ll know just how much he brings. From his brilliant work with Age Scotland’s Dementia Friendly Communities Network to his time at the Life Changes Trust, Colm has been at the heart of people-powered change for years. He’s supported grassroots action, backed innovation, and helped create spaces where people living with dementia are truly heard and valued.

Colm McBriarty
Colm joins us with a deep commitment to inclusion, a passion for the Meeting Centres approach, and a strong track record of building sustainable change. We’re so excited to have him with us as we look to the future and take the next steps on our journey together.
So yes — we say goodbye with a lump in our throats. But we also look ahead with real hope and energy. Because at the heart of everything we do is connection — and we’re so grateful to be connected to people like Jan and Colm, whose belief and dedication help make everything possible.
With heartfelt thanks,
The Meeting Centres Scotland Team X
