We build communities around families living with dementia, so that a diagnosis is the start of a new chapter, not the end of the story. Who we are
Meeting Centres Scotland is a national charity. We grow and support a network of community based Meeting Centres, local places where people living with dementia and the people who care for them find friendship, practical support and a reason to get up in the morning. There are now around 47 Meeting Centres across 17 local authority areas in Scotland, together reaching more than 1,000 people every month.
Working for us is different from working in a single service. Our small national team supports the whole network: helping new centres open, helping existing ones thrive, building partnerships with the NHS, universities and national government, and running projects that push what Meeting Centres can do. You will spend your time in communities across Scotland and at the centre of a movement, often in the same week.
What is it like to work here?
We are a small team with a national reach. That means a lot of autonomy, a lot of variety, and colleagues who trust you to get on with it. Most of us work from home and spend regular time out in communities, in Meeting Centres, and with partners across Scotland. The work is grounded in the Adjusting to Change Model, which shapes everything we do: we believe people living with dementia and their families are adjusting to a change in their lives, and that the right community around them makes that adjustment possible.
In practice, our values look like this. We listen to people living with dementia and unpaid carers first, and they shape our work at every level, including our board. We are honest about what we do not know. We share our thinking openly, including the unfinished parts. And we believe the best ideas usually come from the communities we serve rather than from a head office, which is why we do not really have one.

How we hire
We try to make applying to work with us straightforward and respectful of your time.
Every role we advertise includes the salary, always. Once a vacancy closes, we shortlist within a week and let everyone know the outcome, whether or not they have been shortlisted. Interviews are a conversation, usually with two or three of us, and may include a person with lived experience of dementia, because the people we exist for have a say in who joins us. We are happy to make any reasonable adjustments you need at any stage, and we welcome an informal chat before you apply.

Cancer-ready Meeting Centres

People living with dementia who are also diagnosed with cancer face some of the starkest inequalities in Scottish health care. Serious symptoms get put down to dementia rather than investigated. Cancer is picked up late. Treatment decisions happen at speed, in unfamiliar settings, with little support to understand information or express what matters. We think communities can change that, and we are looking for the person to lead the work.
This post leads our Cancer-ready Meeting Centres project, a two year national programme funded by Macmillan Cancer Support through the Macmillan CARE Grants Programme. You will work with Meeting Centres across Scotland to make them confident, informed places of support for families facing dementia and cancer together.
